Job summary

The State of Maine, Department of Health and Human Services, Maine CDC Drinking Water Program in Augusta, seeks a Drinking Water Rules Administrator to supervise the Rules Unit and ensure accurate, timely compliance determinations.

You will interpret the federal Safe Drinking Water Act and Maine Drinking Water Rules, provide staff training, and coordinate with EPA reviews to maintain public water safety.

Qualifications

• Eight year combination of education and/or experience in environmental science or related area including at least 2 years in supervisory or program management/administration.
• Knowledge of federal and state laws and procedures related to safe drinking water.
• Ability to analyze, interpret and explain laws, rules, and policies.
• Knowledge of public health principles related to safe drinking water.

Responsibilities

• Oversee compliance determinations by the Rule Specialists in the Drinking Water Program.
• Supervise a team of technical staff, assign tasks, and monitor progress toward goals.
• Interpret drinking water regulations, provide guidance during differing interpretations, and train staff.
• Develop and revise policies and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with EPA reviews, data audits, and interagency communications.
