Job summary

Western Carolina University is seeking a Water Plant Operator to maintain and repair treatment and distribution systems at the university's Water Treatment Facility. The role includes sampling, testing, data interpretation, and adjustments to ensure safe water quality.

Shifts run 7:00 am–3:00 pm with coverage for 2:00 pm–10:00 pm; weekends and holidays rotate. Essential employee status requires readiness for varied weather and conditions.

Qualifications

• Certification or ability to obtain required water operator certifications within timelines.
• Ability to follow SOPs and pay close attention to detail; basic computer skills.
• Ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, including lifting 50 pounds.
• Willingness to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment, collect samples, and perform tests to monitor water quality.
• Read and interpret data to ensure plant equipment and processes function properly.
• Regulate chemical feeding devices and adjust processes as needed to maintain water quality.
• Maintain facility through routine maintenance and repairs, and keep thorough records.
• Perform plant rounds and respond to safety, weather, and operational conditions.
