Job summary

RigUp is seeking a Drilling Fluids Engineer to manage and optimize drilling fluid systems for drilling operations. The role focuses on designing, testing, and monitoring drilling mud programs to maintain wellbore stability and minimize formation damage.

The candidate will design fluid programs, monitor properties, and troubleshoot issues with rig site teams, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of drilling fluid chemistry and rheology.
  • Understanding of drilling operations and well construction processes.
  • Proficiency in drilling fluids software and modeling tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Willingness to work on rotating schedules and travel to remote locations.
  • Knowledge of HSE regulations and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Design and recommend drilling fluid programs based on well objectives and geological conditions.
  • Monitor and adjust drilling fluid properties to maintain optimal performance.
  • Conduct daily analysis and testing of mud properties including density, viscosity, pH, and filtration.
  • Troubleshoot drilling fluid-related issues such as lost circulation, wellbore instability, and stuck pipe.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to rig site personnel and mud engineers.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and waste management procedures.
  • Prepare daily reports on drilling fluid performance and costs.
  • Evaluate and recommend drilling fluid products and additives.
  • Coordinate with drilling contractors, mud service companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in pre-spud meetings and well planning sessions.
  • Monitor drilling fluid inventory and consumption.
  • Assist in incident investigations related to drilling fluid operations.
