Drill Operator

Location: Springfield, Ohio area

Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday)

Pay Rate: $16.00 / hour

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Drill Operator to join our production team. In this role, you will operate a drill press to produce high-quality parts that require countersinking according to specific customer prints. You will also manage material handling by operating forklifts and overhead cranes, prepare parts for production, and ensure all finished work meets strict tolerance levels. The ideal candidate works well in a heavy industrial setting and possesses strong blueprint reading and measurement skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Drill Press Operation: Set up and run a drill press to drill, bore, and countersink holes exactly to customer prints.
• Tooling Management: Safely remove and insert various drill bits into sleeves to match exact engineering hole requirements.
• Pre-Production Prep: Grind and deburr parts thoroughly to ensure smooth, clean surfaces prior to the drilling process.
• Material Handling: Safely operate an overhead crane to unload heavy parts, and utilize a forklift to move materials throughout the shop.
• Quality Control: Read blueprints and use calipers, gauges, and tape measures to verify parts; determine if material thickness is correct and evaluate whether parts are out of square.
• Defect Identification: Confidently recognize and report unacceptable part quality or dimensional defects.
• Logistics & Safety: Fill out production paperwork properly, follow technical instructions, and maintain a highly safe and efficient workstation.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Climate & Conditions: Ability to work comfortably in an industrial shop setting subject to hot and cold temperature fluctuations.
• Noise Levels: High-volume noise environment (appropriate hearing protection provided).
• Physical Strength: Capable of performing regular heavy lifting and handling materials safely around sharp edges and specialized shop hazards.
• Teamwork: Strong ability to communicate effectively with other shop personnel.

Skills & Requirements

• Machinery Experience: Proven ability or aptitude to safely run a drill press, forklift, and industrial overhead crane.
