Job summary

PTP is a Houston-based designer and manufacturer of engineered piping systems seeking a Drill Press Operator to set up, operate, and maintain drill press equipment to produce precise holes per blueprints.

You will select tooling, adjust speeds and feeds, verify tolerances with calipers and micrometers, follow safety procedures, and document production on logs while collaborating with machinists and supervisors.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ years of drill press or machining experience preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Select drill bits, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
  • Set up and operate manual, semi-automatic, or radial drill presses.
  • Position and secure workpieces with clamps, vises, jigs, fixtures.
  • Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and bore holes to size.
  • Inspect parts with calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
  • Verify hole depth, diameter, location, tolerances.
  • Load/unload materials and prepare components for machining.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
  • Perform basic maintenance and tooling replacement.
  • Complete production logs and report status.

Position Summary

The Drill Press Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining drill press

machinery to produce precision holes in metal components according to blueprints and

specifications. This role ensures parts meet required tolerances and quality standards while

maintaining safe and efficient operation of equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Select proper drill bits, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
  • Set up and operate manual, semi-automatic, or radial drill presses.
  • Position and secure workpieces using clamps, vises, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Drill, tap, ream, countersink, and bore holes to required dimensions.
  • Inspect parts using calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
  • Verify hole depth, diameter, location, and tolerances.
  • Load/unload materials and prepare components for machining.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety procedures; wear required PPE.
  • Perform basic maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and replacing tooling.
  • Complete production logs and communicate job status to supervisors.

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings and background checks
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods (8+ hours)
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. independently
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and manual handling of materials required
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to tolerate noise, heat, and dust in a manufacturing environment
  • Visual acuity to read measuring tools, drawings, and detect quality defects
  • Must pass initial and ongoing physical or occupational health screenings (e.g., lifting assessment, vision test, hearing test, etc.)
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including steel-toe boots, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
Work Environment

Manufacturing floor with exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp materials, and moderate

to loud noise. May be exposed to hot or cold environments depending on season. Work schedule

may include overtime, weekend shifts, or on-call schedules as needed.
