Job summary

Wayne Brothers Companies is seeking a Drill Operator with geotechnical experience for our Davidson, NC project site. The role requires operating micro-piles, Kelly bar, and CFA rigs, with a focus on safety and inspection procedures.

Applicants should hold OSHA-10/30, First Aid/CPR, and Aerial lift certifications, plus a valid driver’s license. Familiarity with grading operations and site communications is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate drill rigs and heavy equipment per safety guidelines.
  • Set up and break down rigs, load/unload materials.
  • Record data and communicate with foreman.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of equipment.
  • Ensure site safety and adherence to plans and specs.
  • Assist crew with ground improvements and grading tasks.

Position Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Performs all the essential job functions of a Drill Operator.
  • Duties will include operating micro-piles rig, Kelly bar rig, CFA fixed mast rig,
  • Must be capable of setting up / breaking down rigs.
  • Carry, load and unload materials.
  • Record important data and relay to foreman / superintendent.
  • Dig with shovels, picks, air hammers and other specified construction equipment.
  • Arrive to project site on time and participate in daily discussion meetings.
  • Clean up site trash and debris and put in designated disposal area.
  • Work with materials such wood, concrete, grout, steel etc.
  • Work with hoses (air, grout, water, etc.) for all types of jobs on the jobsite.
  • Watching as drilling operations are underway for any hazards or issues with the drill or surrounding area.
  • Ensuring that pile elevations are set to what are required by the plans
  • Proficient in set up of laser and being able to figure out elevations.
  • Conducts safety checks before starting up and operating (and after shutting down) drill and heavy equipment pieces using standard checklists.
  • Reviews site specifications with foreman and superintendent.
  • Operates all light equipment necessary (e.g., concrete, grout vibrator, grout plant/concrete pump, compacting equipment, basic hand tools etc.) for operations.
  • Operates selected pieces of heavy equipment at a basic level to include, but not limited to, the following pieces of equipment:
  • Skidsteer Loader (desirable)
  • Lull (required)
  • Site truck when necessary (desirable)
  • as necessary to prepare grades for and elevations at the construction site. Depending on the equipment being operated, the operator will:
  • Excavate earth.
  • Convey (i.e., haul in or remove) soil/earth, gravel, stone, etc. at theconstruction location as necessary for proper site preparation.
  • Spread and level dirt, gravel, and stone to rough grade/elevation specifications.
  • Hooks up necessary attachments to equipment to complete geo structural and civil task(s).
  • Conducts routine preventative maintenance necessary to keep equipment operating effectively and efficiently.
  • Makes minor repairs as necessary to keep equipment safe and operational.
  • Cooperates with civil equipment apprentices to conduct geotechnical operations.
  • Complies with all applicable state, company and OSHA rules, regulations, and guidelines necessary for safe operation of heavy equipment at the job site.
  • Reports any job site and/or WBI employee safety violation(s) to appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Serves as a safe and productive member of a geotechnical crew/team.
  • Assists operators and crew in installing ground improvements, piles, etc.
  • Assists operators and crew to move dirt on/off site as needed.
  • Assists operators, apprentices, and crew in properly draining water during grading operations.
  • Pumps water, cleans silt and maintains erosion control before, during and after rain events.
  • Observe and help to remove all hazards in a task.

Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Vocational or technical training/experience in grading/site development - desirable
  • OSHA - 10 Hour Certification – required.
  • OSHA - 30 Hour Certification – required.
  • First Aid/CPR – required.
  • Valid driver’s license – required.
  • Aerial lift certification – required.
  • WBI Craft Training and other certifications up through Level I – required after hired.
