Qualifications

  • Driving records within company standards.
  • Ability to read and understand basic instructions and safety rules.
  • OSHA 10 ETD preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR preferred.
  • CDL Class A preferred.
  • Crane operating and rigging experience preferred.
  • Mechanical skills with small engine, hydraulic systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Observe safety rules and stop work if unsafe; report near misses or injuries.
  • Install steel reinforcing materials for shotcrete construction.
  • Excavate, trim, and move soil with equipment and hand tools.
  • Oversee shotcrete and grouting operations.
  • Drill/drive and install nailed or grouted soils and piers (soil nails, anchors, micro piles, soldier piles).
  • Ensure quality of finished products.
  • Operate, safeguard, and maintain equipment and vehicles.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials from trucks.
  • Lead small crews under field supervision.
  • Maintain company grounds and job site cleanliness.
  • Move and handle heavy drill rods and equipment; set up drill sites.
  • Wear proper PPE; follow safety protocols, including fall protection.
  • Work around moving equipment; stay aware of hazards.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Experienced Geotechnical Driller

Subsurface Construction Company is a leading design-build geotechnical specialty contractor with offices located in Raleigh, NC and Greenville, SC. Specializing in the Southeast region, we design and implement solutions for excavation support and geotechnical construction: earth retention including soil nail walls, soldier pile walls and sheet pile walls, ground anchors, rock bolts and deep foundations including micro piles and aggregate piers. Since 1995, Subsurface has served as a dedicated partner to civil and geotechnical engineers, general contractors and owners for excavation support and deep foundations. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safety – Observe safety rules, stops work if unsafe, reports all near misses/injuries.
  • Installs steel reinforcing materials for shotcrete construction.
  • Excavates/Trims/Moves soil with equipment and hand tools.
  • Oversees and performs shotcrete and grouting operations.
  • Drills/drives and installs driven soil nails, grouted soil nails, micro piles, soldier piles, anchors, and/or piers.
  • Responsible for quality of finished products.
  • Operate, safeguard, clean and maintain company equipment and vehicles.
  • Load and unload equipment and materials on/off trucks.
  • Guide and lead small work crews under the supervision of our Field Superintendents.
  • Maintain company grounds.
  • Responsible for moving and handling heavy drill rods and other equipment necessary to set up drill sites, trip out rod and perform drilling operations.
  • Ensure timely and regular attendance.
  • Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (including but not limited to: hard hat, vest, safety toed boots, etc.); utilize fall protection systems; and other safety equipment appropriately and as designated.
  • Cleaning equipment and maintaining a clean worksite.
  • Use ladders or other approved devices safely to reach elevated work surfaces.
  • Regularly work around moving equipment and components.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of employment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years experience drilling soil nails, micro piles, soldier piles, anchors, and/or piers, required.
  • Valid Driver's License without restriction required.
  • Must pass (with results acceptable to Subsurface) applicable background check.
  • Must pass Worksteps Evaluation.
  • Must have driving records within company standards.
  • Ability to read and understand basic instructions, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • OSHA 10 ETD, preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR, preferred.
  • Commercial Driver License Class A, preferred.
  • Crane operating and rigging experience, preferred.
  • Mechanical skills with small engine, hydraulic, etc., preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk and carry loads up to 100 pounds on uneven and sloping surfaces.
  • Work outside in extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
  • Walk, stand, and climb 4 to 6 hours per day.
  • Twist and or reach to complete daily activities.
  • Regularly required to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls with proper PPE.
  • Communicate verbally (both speaking and hearing) in potentially noisy environments.
  • Must speak and understand English at a level appropriate to receive and comprehend specialized safety and training instructions in potentially noisy environments.
  • Work in remote, difficult to access locations.
  • Full time travel.
  • Must be able to work up to 12 hour days, 7 days per week, if necessary.
