Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Director, Dreamer Resource Center, the Dreamer Resource Center Coordinator (Coordinator) is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, expansion, and evaluation of programs and services designed to make the dream of a college degree a reality for undocumented students and students with mixed‑status families at Sacramento State. The Coordinator will create and implement programs and services related to student learning and development that align with the mission of Student Affairs; assist in the recruitment, development, enrichment, inclusion, retention, and student experiences of the Sacramento State undocumented and immigrant student population; serve as a liaison to various offices and programs across campus and to external and community partners with regard to undocumented and immigrant and other under‑represented minority (URM) students; assist with seeking and drafting grants for external funding and engaging in other fundraising efforts; and recruit, hire, and supervise student staff, interns, and/or fellows. The Coordinator provides lead work direction to one represented staff and four student employees.
Minimum Qualifications
- Higher Education student services experience related to the assigned program area (e.g., advising, admissions, student programming, or development).
- Experience working with students from various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, including students who may be considered to be “at promise”.
- Knowledge and abilities: thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; general knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field; general knowledge of individual counseling techniques; working knowledge of student services programs outside the immediate program; ability to analyze complex situations and advise students individually and in groups; ability to interpret and evaluate complex problems; ability to carry out professionally complex assignments; and ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Experience: equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience; optionally one year in the assigned program area; a master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience; a doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
- Education: equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper‑division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job‑related.
- Knowledge/skills/abilities: ability to independently prioritize, plan, and organize work in a fast‑paced environment; strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports; proficiency using standard office software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite); familiarity with school‑based record/data systems/software (example: PeopleSoft); ability to understand, interpret, and apply moderately complex rules, regulations, and procedures; proven skills and specialization in working with undocumented students and students with mixed‑status families; demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate the work of student assistants and volunteers; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; ability to have access to a vehicle and travel as needed; commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents.
- Condition of Employment: satisfactory completion of the background check process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing partnerships and cultivating collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituencies including local, state, and national organizations focused on serving undocumented and immigrant groups.
- Demonstrated knowledge of college student development and pedagogical theories related to first‑generation and students from under‑served backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and address the needs, experiences, and concerns of undocumented and students with mixed‑status families.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the services and resources available to undocumented students and immigrant communities.
- Familiarity with state and federal policies and political climate impacting undocumented students and students with mixed‑status families.
- Familiarity with grant writing and fundraising processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated skill reading, analyzing, and explaining complex and detailed documents related to undocumented students, including federal and state law regulations.
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $5,540.00 per month – $7,893.00 per month. Salary grade/range: 1. Best‑in‑class benefits are available. CSU total compensation details are available.
