The City of Cibolo is seeking a highly motivated Drainage Maintenance Worker I that will perform maintenance on the city’s rights-of-way as well as the city’s drainage infrastructure in an efficient manner that keeps the city’s drainage system clear of obstructions and operating at a level that minimizes drainage issues. An individual in this position will perform a variety of maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to the city drainage infrastructure system.
Essential Functions
- 1. Works under the direction of the Drainage Crew Leader, or in their absence, the Drainage Superintendent.
- 2. Provides for the routine maintenance of the city’s drainage system by mowing, performing weed maintenance, tree trimming, and repairing erosion damage.
- 3. Provides for the routine maintenance of the city’s rights-of way areas by mowing, performing weed maintenance and repairing erosion damage.
- 4. Provides equipment preventative maintenance by greasing equipment; filling with fuel; and repairing and replacing broken parts.
- 5. Provides routine cleanup and maintenance at the Public Works Facility, including cleaning up office spaces, break rooms, work areas, and the outside yard.
- 6. Operates in a safe and efficient manner light and heavy equipment that may be used by the department.
- 7. Operates in a safe and efficient manner power and hand tools that may be used by the department.
- 8. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook 365, Word, and Excel software to complete work orders, send and receive email, and access the city’s human resources and time-keeping software.
- 9. Performs daily work orders as assigned.
- 10. Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge and understanding of the mission statement and values of the City of Cibolo Public Works Department.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Ability to be people-oriented, enjoy being part of a team assisting others.
- Ability to clearly communicate with others, including city team members and city residents.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely using the city radio network and a cell phone.
- Ability to learn to operate heavy and light equipment, hand, and power tools in a safe and efficient manner, including but not limited to backhoe, dump truck, skid-steer loader, zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, and weed-trimmers, drills, saws, wrenches, screw drivers, etc.
- Ability to come to work on time, be prepared to work, and to work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to work with other team members of the City of Cibolo.
- Ability to become proficient on all equipment used by the Department.
- Ability to be able to troubleshoot and make decisions to correct problems.
- Ability to respond to weather-related emergencies.
- Ability to respond to assist or support Fire and Police activities.
- Ability to work for extended hours, on occasion.
Compensation: Hourly range is $17.85/hr - $26.51/hr plus outstanding fringe benefits package which includes 100% fully paid employee health, vision, dental, and life insurance, generous TMRS retirement package with a 2:1 match at 7% employee contribution, 13 paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday that is awarded at the beginning of each fiscal year, vacation and sick leave, and so much more!
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- One (1) years’ experience in a field consistent with the duties of this department.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
- Employee will be required to obtain a traffic flagger and traffic work zone certificate within one (1) year of employment.
