Job summary

Parsons is seeking a Drainage Engineering Intern for our Centreville, VA team, starting Summer 2027. You will collaborate with our transportation group on major regional projects and gain hands-on experience in drainage design and construction document development.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in civil engineering, with a 3.0+ GPA, strong communication and teamwork skills, and familiarity with AutoCAD or MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and leadership skills.
• Eager to learn, self-motivated, and flexible.
• Excellent organizational and management skills.
• Working knowledge of CAD software, such as AutoCAD and Microstation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete assignments for development of construction documents including drawings, specifications and estimates.
• Assist with development of drainage design (including stormwater management) to support new roadway, railroad, and other transportation related projects.
• May perform material quantity takeoffs, estimates and surveys.
• Use design software and CAE/CAD applications to implement project designs.
• Provide input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and other Engineers working on the same project.
• Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Parsons is now hiring for a Drainage Engineering Intern to join our Centreville, VA team starting either this summer 2027! In this role you will have opportunity to work directly with our world-class transportation team on major regional, large scale engineering projects and gain invaluable experience in transportation infrastructure!

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Complete assignments for development of construction documents including drawings, specifications and estimates.
• Assist with development of drainage design (including stormwater management) to support new roadway, railroad, and other transportation related projects.
