Job summary

Amyris, based in Emeryville, CA, seeks an entry-level Process Engineer I for a temporary assignment with the DSPD team. You will help develop downstream separations and purification from fermentation broths, while performing bench-scale studies and supporting pilot-scale activities.

This onsite role emphasizes safety and cross-functional collaboration with Analytical, Fermentation, Quality, Pilot Plant, Operations, and Manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or closely related engineering discipline.
• Up to 3 years of relevant experience involving experimental execution and quantitative data analysis.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly in written and verbal formats.

Responsibilities

• Develop understanding of process performance, product quality, cycle time, material use, waste generation, customer needs, and process economics to support commercialization.
• Safety: PPE, waste-handling, hygiene, EHS, and process-safety requirements; identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
• Collect traceable experimental data; analyze process performance using mass balances, yields, purity, recovery, KPIs; troubleshoot and propose follow-ups.
• Design or assist bench-scale studies for downstream unit operations including centrifugation, filtration, distillation, chromatography, crystallization, and drying.
