Job summary

University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO is seeking a full-time Doula (Open Rank) to support the College of Nursing Doula Program across clinical and community-based settings. The role involves building a new practice to support birthing patients at UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital and growing services for families.

As a Level III equivalent position, the doula will work with an interdisciplinary team to provide non-medical support, prenatal and postpartum education,

Job Summary:

The University of Colorado Anschutz College of Nursing is seeking afull-time (1.0 FTE) University Staff (non-classified) Doula tosupport the CU College of Nursing Doula Program across clinical andcommunity-based settings. The CU College of Nursing is launchingits new practice to support patients birthing at UCHealthUniversity of Colorado Hospital. The doula will have theopportunity to participate in building and growing the practice toreach more families.

Key Responsibilities (All Levels):
Clinical and Patient Care (75%)
  • Provide continuous, one-on-one emotional, physical, andinformational support during pregnancy, labor, birth, andpostpartum.
  • Provide non-medical comfort measures during labor, includingpositioning, breathing techniques, touch, and movement.
  • Support patients in informed decision-making and facilitatecommunication with healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support apositive and respectful birth experience.
  • Provide prenatal education and postpartum support, includingnewborn care and recovery.
  • Assist with breastfeeding initiation and early infant feedingsupport.
  • Provide support to partners and families during labor andpostpartum recovery.
  • Offer emotional support and assist patients in processingtheirbirth experience.
  • Promote culturally responsive and trauma-informed carepractices.
  • Maintain adherence to the scope of practice for doulas.
Customer Service and Outreach (15%)
  • Provide compassionate, respectful, and culturally responsiveservice to patients and families.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teammembers.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding program services.
  • Foster a welcoming environment for individuals from diversebackgrounds.
  • Conduct outreach and engagement to connect patients to doulaservices.
  • Identify barriers to care and connect patients to appropriateresources.
Administrative (10%)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of servicesprovided.
  • Utilize electronic health record systems (EPIC) and/or trackingtools for documentation and reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patientinteractions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient health information inaccordance with HIPAA.
  • Participate in trainings, team meetings, and program-relatedactivities.

At Level III, duties are similar to those performed atLevel II, but decisions are made with a considerable degree of independence. Although positions follow established work processes,they have the authority to determine the procedures required toaccomplish the work. Positions use judgment on an ongoing basis toselect the most appropriate guidelines and adapt them to developwork procedures that accomplish tasks.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.
