Job summary

The Healing Center is seeking a part-time Donation Pick Up Driver in Cincinnati to safely operate a box truck and collect donations from local retailers and partners. You will ensure timely pickups, proper handling, and professional donor interactions, supporting guests with donated essentials.

Key responsibilities include route driving, on-time arrivals, loading and unloading, daily records, and adherence to safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Valid driver\'s license and a driving record acceptable under the organization\'s insurance requirements.
• CDL preferred.
• Must be able to pass required background, motor-vehicle-record, drug, or other screenings.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier items with equipment.
• Reliably available for ~15 hours per week during pickup windows.

Responsibilities

• Drive routes to pick up donated food and household items from retail and community partners.
• Arrive on time and communicate delays or changes.
• Safely load, secure, transport and unload donations.
• Protect refrigerated, frozen, fragile, and perishable donations with proper handling.
• Deliver donations to the Healing Center receiving area and coordinate handoff with warehouse staff.

• Operate vehicle safely and keep cab and cargo area clean and organized.
• Maintain mileage, fuel, inspection, pickup and incident records as required.

Job description

The Donation Pick Up Driver safely operates the Healing Center's box truck or other assigned vehicle to pick up donated food and household products from local retailers such as Target, Sam's Club, Costco, Flowers Foods Bakery, and other community partners. Working approximately 15 hours per week, this role helps ensure donations arrive safely, on schedule, and in good condition so they can be distributed to Healing Center guests. The driver represents the Healing Center with reliability, professionalism, and gratitude at every donor location.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive assigned routes to pick up donated food, household products, and related items from local retail and community partners.
• Arrive at scheduled locations on time and communicate promptly about delays, route changes, or pickup concerns.
• Safely load, secure, transport, and unload donations using appropriate equipment and handling practices.
• Protect refrigerated, frozen, fragile, and perishable donations during transportation and follow applicable food-safety procedures.
• Deliver all donations to the designated Healing Center receiving area and coordinate handoff with warehouse staff or volunteers.

Vehicle Safety & Care

• Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and promptly report damage, maintenance needs, safety concerns, or accidents.
• Operate the vehicle safely and lawfully, following traffic regulations, organizational policies, route requirements, and vehicle weight or loading limits.
• Keep the cab and cargo area clean, organized, and ready for the next route.
• Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, inspection, pickup, and incident records as required.

Retailer & Team Relationships

• Build positive working relationships with retailer staff and other donation partners.
• Treat donors, volunteers, staff, guests, and community members with dignity, patience, and respect.
• Communicate donation changes, rejected items, unusually large pickups, or other issues to the Warehouse Manager.
• Assist warehouse staff with receiving, weighing, sorting, or staging donations when time and operational needs allow.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable under the organization's insurance requirements.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
• Must be able to successfully complete and maintain any required ODOT/DOT physical or medical certification.
• Ability to pass required background, motor-vehicle-record, drug, or other screenings applicable to the position.
• Reliable availability for approximately 15 hours per week during scheduled retailer pickup windows; occasional schedule adjustments may be required.

EXPERIENCE

• Experience driving a box truck, delivery vehicle, or similar commercial vehicle strongly preferred.
• Ability to safely use carts, dollies, pallet jacks, liftgates, straps, and other loading equipment after training.

PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS

• Regularly requires driving, sitting, standing, walking, climbing into and out of a vehicle, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and loading or unloading donated goods.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and move heavier items with appropriate equipment or assistance.
• Work may occur in loading docks, warehouses, retail receiving areas, and outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
