Job summary

Behavioral Health Network, Inc (BHN) seeks a Domestic Violence Advocate – Phone Based to support survivors in Western Massachusetts. The role involves crisis intervention via phone, safety planning, and referrals to community services within BHN’s Domestic Violence Services program.

Ideal applicants will have a High School Diploma or GED (Bachelor's preferred), MA driver’s license, and at least 1 year of related experience, with willingness to work per diem coverage including evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year in human services, mental health, or case management.
  • Experience with survivors of domestic or sexual violence preferred.
  • Valid MA driver's license and access to a car if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide victim support and crisis intervention via phone.
  • Offer safety planning and risk assessments.
  • Conduct referrals to community services for survivors.
  • Educate on dynamics of abuse.
  • Respond to domestic violence incidents as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

What You Will Do
  • Serving as a key component to local community response to Domestic Violence in this rural region of Massachusetts.
  • Providing victim support and crisis intervention via phone call.
  • Offering problem solving and referrals to community services for survivors of domestic violence.
  • Offering education about the dynamics of abuse.
  • Providing safety planning and risk assessments, emotional support, and case management.
  • Being specially trained for this position.
  • Being immediately available to respond following a domestic violence incident.

Through BHN’s variety of Domestic Violence programs, we offer supportive individual and group services to help those who feel unsafe in their intimate partnerships or are questioning the health of their dating or partner relationships. This position is a sub-grant through the Northwestern District Attorney's office.

Who You Are
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent (required); Bachelor’s degree in related field (preferred).
  • At least 25 hours of trainings relevant to Domestic Violence Advocacy/Sexual Assault; proof of certifications required during hiring process (required).
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts laws 20J & 20K (required).
  • Familiarity with domestic violence & sexual assault support resources available within Western Massachusetts (required).
  • At least one year of experience within the field of human services, mental health, social services, or case management (required).
  • At least one year of experience working survivors of domestic or sexual violence (preferred).
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license & car available for work purposes, if needed (required).
  • Ability to commute to Ware, MA and/or Northampton, MA within 30 minutes, if needed (required).

Available Schedules

Per Diem: coverage for approximately one week/month, including weekday evenings, 8:00pm-7:00am, and 24-hr coverage for weekends and any Monday holidays

Pay Structure

$25/shift covered + $23.75/hr per hour doing related work assisting individuals during shift
