Job summary

Sun Valley Resort in Idaho is seeking a Snowmaker to join the Dollar Mountain Snowmaking team. You will operate and maintain snowmaking equipment, support production goals, and work on rotating shifts during the winter season.

This physically demanding role requires safety awareness, teamwork, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather. Prior snowmaking familiarity is not required, but a willingness to learn and read/understand procedures is essential.

Qualifications

  • Outdoor work in winter conditions and willingness to work outdoors on slopes.
  • Basic computer skills for equipment checks and documentation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities to operate with Snowmaking teammates.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; driver's license required.
  • Commitment to safety procedures and incident reporting.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including days/evenings/overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Skiing or snowboarding is beneficial but not required.
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs and frequently up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor snowmaking equipment during routine inspections.
  • Perform routine inspection of pumphouse and snowmaking infrastructure.
  • Access equipment areas using snowmobiles/snowcats and maintain routes.
  • Follow snowmaking plans and procedures to meet production goals safely.
  • Perform snow removal using tools as needed.
  • Report equipment issues to supervisors and teammates promptly.
  • Collaborate with Snowmaking and Mountain Operations for safe operations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment and follow safety policies.

Description

Join the Sun Valley Resort Dollar Mountain Snowmaking team and help create exceptional skiing and riding conditions for our guests. Snowmakers operate and maintain snowmaking equipment to produce high-quality snow throughout the winter season. This physically demanding, team-oriented position requires working safely in all weather conditions and on rotating shifts to support snowmaking operations.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor snowmaking equipment through routine field inspections and manual adjustments.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic operation of the pumphouse and related snowmaking infrastructure.
  • Safely operate snowmobiles, snowcats, skis, or snowboards to access snowmaking equipment across the mountain.
  • Follow established snowmaking plans and operating procedures to achieve production goals safely and efficiently.
  • Perform snow removal using manual tools, snowblowers, or plows as needed.
  • Communicate equipment issues and operational concerns promptly to supervisors and teammates.
  • Work collaboratively with Snowmaking teammates and other Mountain Operations departments to support safe and efficient resort operations.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work environment and follow all Resort safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for working outdoors and willingness to work in all winter weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.Current U.S. Driver's License required.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all snowmaking and Mountain Operations safety procedures.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, as operational needs require.
  • Skiing or snowboarding ability is beneficial but not required.
  • Engage in physical activities like standing for long periods, walking, and utilizing hands for tasks that involve gripping, handling, and reaching.
  • Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
