Job summary

Position: Shift Manager

Location: Herndon, VA

Work hours: 40–45 hours per week.

The Shift Manager is responsible for maintaining accountability and safety for a team of up to 20 employees and a group of up to 80 customer dogs. The role requires staying on feet for the entire shift and managing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Uphold and set an example for company values.
• Conduct successful interviewing and hiring of team members.
• Oversee training and development of team members, provide daily feedback, and deliver performance reviews.
• Maintain and manage the store’s social media presence.
• Monitor store supply levels and budgeting.
• Deliver the highest level of customer service, including handling complaints through the online customer satisfaction rating system.
• Accurately invoice customer purchases and monitor team accountability in this area.
• Execute in‑store and out‑of‑store marketing such as local dog events, special promotions, and customer competitions.
• Ensure all Dogtopia health and safety policies are followed for both dogs and staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years of direct management experience with a team of five or more employees. Prior key holder or department manager experience is required.
• Genuine affinity for dogs; they are the center of our business.
• Willingness and ability to learn basics of dog behavior; occasional participation in playroom observation may be required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
• Strong verbal communication skills and ability to train and develop teams.
• Excellent organizational, multi‑tasking, and oversight skills.
• Proven customer service skills.
