Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a journeyman-level Linux Server Administrator to support Linux-based systems in a DoD environment. You will install, configure, secure, monitor, and maintain servers, and perform patching, backups, and vulnerability remediation.

The role is full-time and on-site in Middletown, RI, with occasional travel to customer locations. DoD security clearance is required or must be obtainable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; approximately three years of relevant experience; additional experience or training may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Journeyman-level experience administering Linux systems in enterprise, engineering, laboratory, or mission-support environments.
• Strong Linux distributions experience: Red Hat, Rocky, AlmaLinux, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SUSE.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux servers and supporting infrastructure.
• Monitor availability, performance, security, and resource utilization.
• Diagnose and resolve server hardware, OS, storage, and networking issues.
• Perform patching, updates, and routine maintenance.
• Secure and harden Linux systems per DoD STIGs and policies.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, authentication, and logs.
• Configure services like SSH, DNS, NFS, web services, time sync, logging.
• Support vulnerability scanning, assessments, and remediation.
• Implement backups, DR, and continuity plans.
• Use scripting/automation to improve tasks.
• Assist incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Maintain documentation and diagrams.
