Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a journeyman-level Linux Server Administrator to support the installation, configuration, operation, security, and maintenance of Linux-based systems in a DoD environment. This on-site Middletown, Rhode Island role includes system hardening, patching, user access management, and documentation.

The candidate will monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate across cybersecurity, network, software, and engineering teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, engineering, or a related discipline.
Journeyman-level Linux administration experience in enterprise, engineering, laboratory, or mission-support environments.
Experience with Linux installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, and user/group/permissions management.
Security hardening and vulnerability remediation with DoD STIGs or similar standards.

Responsibilities

Install, configure, administer, and maintain Linux servers and supporting infrastructure.
Monitor availability, performance, capacity, security, and resource utilization.
Diagnose and resolve server hardware, OS, storage, and network issues.
Patch, update, configure, and maintain Linux systems; manage access and logs.
Coordinate with cybersecurity, network, software, and customer support teams.
Travel to customer or program locations as needed.
