Job summary

SMX is seeking an AI Engineer to support a government client at Camp Smith in Aiea, Hawaii. The role focuses on designing, developing, and improving AI-enabled systems tied to client operations and knowledge management.

The ideal candidate brings military operational experience, a strong technical background, and familiarity with Maven Smart System, cloud environments, and AI tools. This full-time, onsite position requires U.S. citizenship and security clearance eligibility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, AI, data science, software engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, engineering, or related field.
• 5–8 years of relevant technical experience; additional experience may substitute for degree.
• Military operational experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience developing AI-enabled systems, tools, workflows, automation, or data integrations.
• Experience with Maven Smart System as the primary AI/operational platform preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build the AI-enabled capability transforming client processes into integrated tools and workflows.
• Design, build, and support AI-integrated systems improving workflows and decision-making.
• Transform operational processes into AI-enabled tools and environments.
• Support Maven Smart System as the primary AI and operational integration platform.
• Develop AI-enabled workflows connecting data, tools, and decision processes.
• Support in-house LLM capabilities trained or tuned on organizational data where authorized.
• Create retrieval-augmented generation workflows using trusted data sources.
• Develop AI agent workflows to retrieve information, summarize content, and assist decision-making.
• Design prompt templates, chains, and reusable AI patterns.
• Integrate AI systems with cloud environments, APIs, databases, dashboards, and workflows.
• Support embedding models, vector search, data ingestion, and AI search capabilities.
• Develop methods to test and evaluate AI system performance, accuracy, relevance, and usefulness.
• Collaborate with AI Integrator and Knowledge Systems Integrator for operational usefulness.
