Job summary

University of Phoenix is seeking a Doctoral Instructor to support instructional excellence across doctoral programs. This remote role coordinates with administration to inform leadership about changing student needs and to improve education programs.

You will teach up to five classes annually and may chair dissertation committees, while maintaining flexible hours to assist students both inside and outside the classroom.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in a field related to the program content.
• Doctorate in Educational Leadership or related with a dissertation requirement.
• At least 1 year of leadership in education; 3 years of leadership overall preferred.
• Must be a current University of Phoenix Associate Faculty member.
• Strong knowledge of adult education practices and curriculum development.

Responsibilities

• Teach online, residency, or dissertation classes as part of the program curricula.

About the Position

A Doctoral Instructor (Doctoral Faculty) supports the overall instructional and academic excellence of their respective doctoral program/content area. An individual coordinates with central administration and various stakeholders to inform University leadership about the changing needs of specific student populations for the purpose of continual quality improvement of education programs.

What You’ll Do:

• Serve as a faculty teaching within the program curricula for online, residency or dissertation classes; teach up to five classes within the academic year in accordance with teaching practices identified in the Faculty Handbook and by the practicing College and University administration; effectively use a mentor/coach approach to build productive educational relationships with students.
• Serve on dissertation committees or in an assigned role as a project chair, resource specialist, research methodologist, statistician, IRB expert, or panel validator; develop and maintain strong relationships by serving as a program resource for college and/or academic staff, faculty and students, and serve as a liaison for the College.
• Support the research methodology team by peer reviewing content for publication.
• Apply flexibility and creativity in meeting student needs, ensuring availability to students, responding to student issues and concerns, as needed, inside and outside of the classroom, based on the learning environment and according to University and College policy and instructional standards.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the quality and integrity of the College’s respective doctoral program, including the development and implementation of program goals and program integrity; Participate in programmatic accreditation activities, committees, and attendance at required meetings and student forums.
• Participate in and lead task forces and committees, which includes participating in the planning, implementation, and coordination of activities to maximize service quality effectiveness and efficiency, as required; represent and address academic concerns with academic leadership.
• Maintain a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, to support student development and progression; hold open office hours to accommodate student development and progression.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge of the curricula by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies and developing an annual personal research or scholarship agenda that includes publication or presentation to a larger academic community; maintain a general knowledge of emerging issues and trends related to the respective doctoral studies.
• Work remotely and maintain a home office environment, that is conducive to professionalism and student privacy, with capability of video conferencing for all College meetings.
• Perform other duties as required or apparent;

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

Doctoral Instructor - Doctor of Education Program

• Doctoral degree in a field related to the content of the academic program, as described
• Doctorate Educational Leadership or related degree requiring the successful completion of a dissertationOR
• Must have 1 year of leadership experience in (K-12 or higher education), educational technology, curriculum and development and Administration experience
• Doctorate in any area requiring the successful completion of a dissertation
• Must have 3 years of leadership experience in (K-12 or higher education), educational technology, curriculum and development and Administration experience
• Knowledge of adult education practices, curriculum development and academic content area
• Must be a current University of Phoenix Associate Faculty member

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR SPECIFIC PROGRAMS:

• Have current graduate scholarship on file.
• Complete the self-guided Dissertation Chair Training Refresher (DCTR) annually
• Five (5 years) recent experience in education or related field
• Two (2 years) significant experience teaching education or leadership at a college/university level
• Two (2 years) current experience in project management and leading organizations and teams
• SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENT:
• Enhanced Scholarship: 1) Presentation that is peer-reviewed and given in an academic or professional setting, 2) Peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed articles that are submitted or accepted to appear in an academic, professional, or scholarly journal are applicable if they fall under the Scholarship of Discovery domain of the Boyer Model. (Includes: An editor of a book or review of chapters in an edited book). Self-published manuscripts do not count., or 3) White Paper that is peer-reviewed and submitted or accepted for publication by a professional organization or educational institution. If faculty do not currently meet this requirement they may still be qualified; however, they have one year from the date the content area is approved to come into compliance with this Enhanced Graduate Scholarship requirement to maintain the content area approval

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Proven experience as a scholar, practitioner, leader in one of the industries relative to our doctoral degree program
• Able to convey a professional image and effectively represent the organization as appropriate in its relationship w/ the community as well as in all professional social media profiles such as LinkedIn
• Familiarity with adult education experience
• Experience w/ doctoral-level education
• High level of problem solving and decision-making abilities to respond to student issues and concerns, evaluate students for retention, persistence, and assess student work and abilities, facilitate the doctoral learning experience
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively w/ diverse constituencies, including students, faculty, employees and external parties.

Pay Range

The annual pay range for this position is $32,688 (minimum) - $48,750 (midpoint) - $64,813 (maximum).

The hiring range for this position is $37,000 or $40,000.

Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
