Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Doctor Coordinator to support on-site doctors during high-demand shifts. You will manage workflow, coordinate consults and diagnostics, and ensure timely documentation and communication for patient care.

The role requires veterinary experience and strong multitasking, with a focus on patient safety and efficient operations in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Qualifications

• Veterinary background is required.
• Emergency experience is a plus.
• Strong numerical skills for drug calculations and infusions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Directly supports specific doctor(s) for a given shift and may support different doctors.
• Ensures follow-through of departmental workflow for the supported doctor(s).
• Collaborates on scheduling consults, transfers, and diagnostics.
• Delegates team responsibilities and rounds on cases.
• Acts as communications liaison for referral transfers when doctors are unavailable.
• Documents patient histories, vitals, and treatment orders for doctors.
• Monitors emails and voicemails for doctors.
• Assists with outpatient procedures and prepares exam rooms.
• May mentor or train team members and coordinate prescriptions.

We are looking for: Emergency Doctor Coordinator

Schedule:

A week - Sunday - Wednesday 4p-2a, B week Sunday - Tuesday 4p-2a

What you’ll do:

• Directly supports specific doctor(s)for a given shift; may support different doctors within a department at different times
• Ensures follow through of departmental workflow for the supported doctor(s)
• Collaborates on scheduling of consults, transfers, and diagnostics
• Delegates team responsibilities as appropriate to team members (rounding cases, planning and managing diagnostic scheduling and information, etc.)
• Acts as point of contact for referral partner transfers/inquiries if doctor is unavailable
• Provides departmental client communication for cases (i.e. concerns, care plan discussions, Q&A in absence of doctor, etc.)
• Drafts medical record documentation for supported doctor(s). Creates initial patient history, documents/gathers initial vital statistics and treatment orders, scribes referral letter and discharge/dismissal letter for doctor review.
• Monitors e-mails and voicemails for doctor(s)
• Assists with and ensures completion of outpatient procedures as required by doctor(s) (bandage changes, post-operative radiographs, diagnostic samples, medication administration, etc.)
• May escort outpatient clients to and from exam rooms and prepare/maintain exam rooms
• May act as a mentor or trainer for team members
• May coordinate and delegate prescription refills to team members

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation:

This position has an initial hiring range of $22.75 to $30.25 per hour based on skillset and experience.

We support our weekend and overnight caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8pm and 11:59pm = base pay + $2/hour
• Hours worked between 12am to 7:59am = base pay + $3/hour
• Hours worked on Weekends (day or night) = base pay +$1/hour + any applicable differential
