Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Washington state is seeking a mechanical engineer to design safety-critical components for pressurized docking mechanisms and participate in the full flight hardware design cycle. You will produce drawings, interface control documents, and develop hardware through testing and qualification.

You will work within the Lunar Permanence unit on the Human Landing System program, collaborating with NASA and national partners to deliver reliable spaceflight hardware and meet schedule

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop safety-critical mechanical components and systems for pressurized docking mechanisms.
  • Participate in the full design cycle of flight hardware, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification.
  • Generate component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents with application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware.
  • Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
  • Develop component specifications and manage suppliers.
  • Leverage experience and engineering judgment to quickly design and produce non-flight, proof of concept hardware for fast-moving research and development projects
  • Participate in a small, agile team to create and adapt to frequently shifting priorities

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. This individual will use their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to join our team and positively impact safe human spaceflight. You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Permanence system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. This opportunity will report to the Docking Mechanisms Subsystem inside of the Lunar Permanence business unit.
