Responsibilities

  • Maintain the Claims Commission hearing dockets and send notifications for scheduled hearings to the appropriate parties.
  • Provide assistance to claimants and state agencies via telephone, email or in person.
  • Prepare correspondence to claimants and state agencies regarding claims status, responses, deficiencies in claim files and hearings.
  • Draft subpoenas, manage equipment for hearings, and monitor receipt of hearing transcripts.
  • Organize claim files and ensure that all correspondence, pleadings, exhibits and notifications are scanned, saved and filed in the claims database.
  • Prepare dockets for the Crime Victims Compensation Fund.
  • Attend hearings as necessary.

Who we are:

The West Virginia Legislative Claims Commission is a division of the West Virginia Legislature's Joint Committee of Government and Finance. The Legislative Claims Commission is a legislative agency that hears claims filed against state agencies. It also administers the West Virginia Crime Victims Compensation Fund, which provides financial assistance to qualified victims of criminally injurious conduct.

Position:

Docket Clerk for the Legislative Claims Commission

Summary of Position:

The Docket Clerk’s responsibilities and duties include:

  • maintaining the Claims Commission hearing dockets and sending notifications for scheduled hearings to the appropriate parties;
  • providing assistance to claimants and state agencies, communicating by telephone, email or in person;
  • preparing various correspondence to claimants and state agencies regarding claims status, responses, deficiencies in claim files and hearings;
  • drafting subpoenas, managing necessary equipment for hearings, and monitoring the receipt of hearing transcripts;
  • organizing claim files and ensuring that all correspondence, pleadings, exhibits and notifications to the parties are scanned, saved and filed in the claims database;
  • preparing dockets for the Crime Victims Compensation Fund;
  • attending hearings as necessary.

The Docket Clerk will work under the supervision of the Clerk of the Legislative Claims Commission and be available to perform any necessary tasks in assistance to the Clerk of the Legislative Claims Commission.

Limited travel throughout the State of West Virginia to support the Claims Commission in its hearings is required.

Qualifications:
