Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
• Eight or more years of experience building applied machine learning, AI, or data systems with delivery of LLM/RAG systems.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Python, and large-scale document processing including OCR and layout-aware parsing.

Responsibilities

• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and document-processing pipelines on the Databricks lakehouse, including ingestion, OCR of mixed-quality sources, chunking, embedding, and retrieval.
• Develop LLM workflows for summarization, structured extraction, and evidence-grounded generation with source attribution.
• Generate synthetic document corpora with fidelity and quality variation for performance evaluation.
• Establish evaluation harness to measure retrieval quality, groundedness, structured-output validity, and manage human-in-the-loop review.
• Package deliverables as jobs and Asset Bundles tracked in MLflow with comprehensive documentation for operational ownership.

Role Overview

This organization is seeking a skilled AI Engineer to support critical risk decision initiatives on a greenfield data and AI platform within a secure environment. The successful candidate will build large language model (LLM) and document-intelligence capabilities, delivering hands-on solutions for near-term demonstrations. Responsibilities include creating portable, documented systems and executing a smooth knowledge transfer to the internal team. This engagement spans one year with an option to extend.

Key Responsibilities

• Build retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and document-processing pipelines on the Databricks lakehouse, including ingestion, OCR of mixed-quality sources, chunking, embedding, and retrieval.
• Develop LLM workflows for summarization, structured extraction, and evidence-grounded generation with source attribution.
• Generate synthetic document corpora with the fidelity and quality variation needed for meaningful performance evaluation.
• Establish the evaluation harness to measure retrieval quality, groundedness, structured-output validity, and manage human-in-the-loop review.
• Package deliverables as jobs and Asset Bundles tracked in MLflow, providing comprehensive documentation for operational ownership.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.

Experience: Eight or more years of experience building applied machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data systems, with demonstrated delivery of personally constructed LLM and RAG systems.

Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with Databricks, Python, and large-scale document processing, including layout-aware parsing and OCR. Proficiency in local or self-hosted LLM serving environments, such as vLLM, TGI, Ollama, or llama.cpp, to run open-weight models in isolated or air-gapped environments. Experience in privacy-preserving synthetic data generation and government contracting is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building RAG systems within secure, authorized hosting environments or boundaries.
• Familiarity with federal data handling standards, compliance frameworks, or security controls.
• Proficiency with Databricks Vector Search, Mosaic AI Agent Framework, Agent Evaluation, Asset Bundles, MLflow, and Unity Catalog governance.
• Experience utilizing H2O tools, including h2oGPTe and Driverless AI.
