Qualifications

• Experience: 8+ years in utility safety with leadership of safety programs.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline; 4-year equivalent considered.
• Certifications: CSP/CHST/OHST preferred.
• Technical Skills: Knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations.
• Behavioral Skills: Strong communication, presentation, interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

General Summary

Responsible for carrying out the company’s safety vision and requirements within the Electric Power Division. This role ensures safety programs are consistently used on EPD projects, facilities, and fleet operations, leads the supporting safety team, and works with corporate safety leadership and other division teams to prevent serious injuries and support a strong safety culture.

Principal Accountabilities

Safety Leadership & Program Development

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve incident-prevention strategies, and safety systems aligned with company policy and industry best practices.
• Lead the integration of Energy-Based Safety methodologies, ensuring that hazardous-energy identification and critical-control verification are embedded into work planning and execution.
• Champion strategies focused on the prevention of SIFs, including the identification of SIF-potential tasks, validation of controls, and mitigation of high-energy exposures.

Collaboration & Oversight

• Partner with Safety Managers, project teams, and operational leadership to ensure consistent application of safety policies and controls across all division projects.
• Participate in project and division meetings; chair quarterly safety committee meetings; and coordinate implementation of companywide safety committee initiatives.
• Promote a learning culture by encouraging open reporting, facilitating learning reviews, and supporting non-punitive engagement around safety issues.

Compliance, Audits & Field Presence

• Conduct and support job-site observations, audits, and investigations to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety requirements.
• Validate the presence and effectiveness of critical controls for high-risk, high-energy tasks.
• Provide visible, consistent field engagement to reinforce safe work practices and ensure Energy-Based Safety concepts are actively applied at the point of risk.

Incident Management & Claims

• Lead or support incident investigations using energy-based causal analysis to identify hazardous-energy pathways and SIF precursors.
• Work with Safety Claims Administrator on workers’ compensation and casualty claims

Metrics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) for assigned direct reports to ensure alignment with division goals and expectations.
• Recommend improvements based on data, field observations, and emerging industry best practices.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Experience: 8+ years of experience in utility safety, with demonstrated leadership in managing organizational safety programs.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline; equivalent 4-year combination of education and experience will be considered.
• Certifications: Professional safety certifications preferred (e.g., CSP, CHST, OHST).
• Technical Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
• Behavioral Skills: Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. E
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to influence and partner with all levels of the organization.

Description Of Physical Working Environment

• Primarily office-based with routine travel to project sites. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during site visits and safety inspections.
• Occasional lifting of materials or supply boxes up to 30 lbs.
