Job summary

Hooper-Corporation in Wisconsin seeks a Safety Specialist to promote a proactive safety culture across divisions. You will conduct field observations, assist with investigations, and reinforce compliance with safety requirements.

The role supports critical controls, Site-Specific Safety Plans, and reducing SIF exposures. The position requires 3+ years in construction or industrial safety, a relevant bachelor's degree, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years' experience in construction or industrial safety.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety observations and validate corrective actions.
  • Assist in or lead incident investigations with documentation and root-cause analysis.
  • Support compliance with safety standards and maintain records.
  • Participate in safety meetings, briefings, and training sessions.
  • Support Site-Specific Safety Plans and client safety initiatives.
  • Exercise stop-work authority to ensure safe operations.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

General Summary:

The Safety Specialist supports the safe execution of work activities across all divisions. This role promotes a proactive safety culture by conducting field observations, assisting with incident investigations, and reinforcing compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements. The position helps verify critical controls for high-energy tasks, supports Site-Specific Safety Plans, and contributes to identifying and reducing Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF)-potential exposures.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Conduct regular safety observations; identify hazards and help validate corrective actions.
  • Assist in or lead incident investigations, including documentation, reporting, and participation in root-cause analysis.
  • Support compliance with corporate, client, and regulatory safety standards.
  • Maintain safety documentation, inspection records, and reporting tools.
  • Participate in safety meetings, briefings, and training sessions.
  • Support implementation of Site-Specific Safety Plans and client safety initiatives.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions exist and partner with teams to restore safe operations.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Experience: At least 3 years' experience in construction or industrial safety; exposure to mechanical, electrical, or utility environments beneficial.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Proven Ability: Demonstrated commitment to safety, adherence to safety protocols, and willingness to learn mechanical construction safety practices.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to recognize hazards and verify critical controls. Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and related standards.
  • Behavioral Skills: Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in field environments.
Qualified candidates must have at least one of the following Certifications:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Graduate or Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
  • Safety Trained Supervisor – Construction (STS-C)
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in EHS discipline or EHS related field
Qualified candidates must have successfully completed at least one of the following Trainings (undertaken in the last 3 years):
  • NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma (EU and Asia)
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry Outreach Training course (US)
Description of Physical Working Environment:
  • Primarily field-based with exposure to active construction sites, varying weather conditions, and uneven terrain.
  • Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Some travel to job sites and meetings required.
