Job description

The University of Virginia Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Division Chief for Pediatric Anesthesiology. The position requires the applicant to have served in an academic faculty role as a pediatric anesthesiologist for at least 3 years and possess significant leadership experience.

The Division Chief will promote excellence in perioperative care for pediatric surgical patients across all clinical locations, aiming to improve quality and efficiency of anesthesia services. They will develop and execute a vision aligning with the department's and UVA Health's academic, clinical, and community missions. Additionally, the chief will ensure faculty mentoring and growth opportunities within UVA Health System.

Reporting:

The division chief reports to the Chair, Executive Vice Chair, Vice Chair of Clinical Operations, and other vice chairs of the Department of Anesthesiology. The section chief for Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia reports to the Division Chief.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing protocols to optimize pediatric anesthesia procedures for quality and efficiency.
• Collaborating with nursing leadership, surgeons, and proceduralists to ensure workflow efficiency.
• Developing and maintaining pediatric sedation services in collaboration with relevant department leaders.
• Addressing quality issues related to pediatric anesthesia.
• Attending over 65% of departmental leadership meetings monthly.
• Leading at least six division meetings annually to discuss clinical, educational, academic, and community opportunities.
• Working with the residency director and Vice Chair for Education to meet educational goals and ensure timely evaluations, as well as maintaining a robust didactic curriculum.
• Mentoring division faculty and working with the Vice Chair for faculty development; reporting on faculty progress for reappointments and promotions.
• Nominating faculty for awards in coordination with the Vice Chair for Faculty Development.
• Promoting the division's academic mission and representing it in national subspecialty meetings.
• Participating in faculty evaluations related to clinical care, education, research, and community engagement.
• Ensuring billing compliance and collaborating to maximize billing and collections.
• Supporting workforce planning and faculty recruitment.
• Partnering in developing orientation programs for new faculty.
• Fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment aligned with ASPIRE values.
