Job description

System Division Chief, Critical Care

Inova Health is seeking a dedicated Diagnostic Imaging Technical Specialist to join our team. The Medicine Service Line is looking for a Division Chief to lead our collaborative, high-performing team of over 70 physicians and advanced practice providers, who care for the most acutely ill patients across all 5 Inova Hospitals.

Our need for intensivists has increased due to the rising acuity and volume of patients in our adult ICUs. We care for critically ill patients in the Medical-Surgical ICU, Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, and Neuroscience ICU at IFMC. We also provide critical care consultation throughout the hospital and subspecialty critical care support across the Inova system. Post-ICU care is managed by hospitalists, including a subspecialty hospitalist service for neurologic conditions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead effectively by embodying Inova's core values.
  • Collaborate with Medicine Service Line leaders to develop and implement the vision for Medical Critical Care.
  • Manage critical care physicians and medical directors across all care sites, including TeleICU and hospitals, with indirect management of Advanced Practice Providers.
  • Drive clinical quality initiatives aligned with system-wide goals.
  • Recruit system intensivists and manage contracts with community intensivists in partnership with leadership.
  • Standardize critical care delivery and outcomes across units.
  • Work with nursing, administrative, and medical leaders to develop new programs and services.
  • Oversee operational aspects such as procurement, budgeting, compliance, disaster planning, risk management, and research.
  • Develop and oversee the TeleICU and bedside intensivist programs.
  • Partner with nursing and administration to improve patient outcomes, experiences, and staff retention.
  • Participate in strategic decisions within the Medicine Service Line.
  • Collaborate with GME & UME to support medical education for students, residents, and fellows.
  • Perform any other roles as directed by Inova Medicine Service Line leadership.

Additional Requirements:

  • Work Schedule: Varies
  • Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school, completed ACGME residency and fellowship, board eligible or certified.
  • Experience: Leadership experience as a Medical Staff Department Chair or Section Chief is preferred.
  • Licensure: Unrestricted Virginia medical license and DEA eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of leadership in a level one trauma center.
  • Completion of a Critical Care and Pulmonology Fellowship.
