Job description

System Division Chief, Critical Care

Inova Health is seeking a dedicated Division Chief of Critical Care to lead our high-performing team within the Medicine Service Line. This role involves overseeing critical care services across all five Inova Hospitals, including the adult ICUs and subspecialty critical care support.

Our intensivists care for the most acutely ill patients in four adult ICUs at IFMC: Medical-Surgical ICU, Coronary Care Unit, Cardiovascular ICU, and Neuroscience ICU. We also provide critical care consultations throughout the hospital and subspecialty support to the Inova system. Post-ICU care is managed by a team of hospitalists, including subspecialty hospitalists for neurologic conditions.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Lead with Inova's core values.
  2. Collaborate with Medicine Service Line leaders to shape the vision for Critical Care.
  3. Manage critical care physicians and medical directors across care sites, including TeleICU and hospitals; indirectly manage APPs.
  4. Implement clinical quality initiatives aligned with system goals.
  5. Recruit system intensivists and manage community intensivist contracts.
  6. Standardize critical care delivery and outcomes across units.
  7. Develop new programs with nursing, administrative, and medical leaders.
  8. Oversee operational aspects: procurement, budget, compliance, disaster planning, risk management, research.
  9. Develop and oversee TeleICU and bedside intensivist programs.
  10. Partner with nursing and admin to improve patient outcomes, experience, and staff retention.
  11. Participate in strategic decisions within the Medicine Service Line.
  12. Collaborate with GME & UME to foster an enriching learning environment.
  13. Perform other roles as directed by leadership.

Additional Requirements:

  • Work Schedule: Varies
  • Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school, completed ACGME residency and fellowship, board eligible or certified.
  • Experience: Leadership experience as Medical Staff Department Chair/Section Chief preferred.
  • Licensure: Unrestricted Virginia medical license and DEA eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of leadership in a Level I trauma center.
  • Completion of Critical Care and Pulmonology Fellowship.
