Job summary

The City of Shawnee is seeking a Division Chief of Community Risk Reduction / Fire Marshal to lead the CRR Division. You will direct inspections, plan reviews, and permits while coordinating with builders, engineers, and city staff to enforce fire codes and improve public safety.

This role requires a strong leadership background, a bachelor’s degree, and extensive fire service experience including compliance, training, and investigations. The position is full-time and based in Shawnee, KS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum of 10 years of fire service experience; supervisory experience preferred.
• Certification as Kansas EMT or Natl Registry with ability to obtain Kansas on hire.
• Pro Board or IFSAC fire service certifications: HAZMAT Awareness, HAZMAT Operations, Firefighter I, Firefighter II.
• Fire Inspector and Fire Plan Review certifications within one year of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Leads and manages the Community Risk Reduction Division and directs daily fire prevention activities.
• Interprets fire codes and provides enforcement guidance to community stakeholders.
• Reviews plans and permits for compliance; conducts fire and life safety inspections.
• Investigates origins and causes; serves as expert witness when required.
• Oversees training of personnel and manages departmental software platforms.
