Job summary

North Smithfield School Department is seeking a Custodian for the districtwide second shift in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. This is a twelve-month position reporting to the Facilities Manager and Building Administrator.

Immediate starting date, compensation per NSASSP contract, with responsibilities including cleaning, safety checks, snow removal, and grounds maintenance. The role requires physical capability and a willingness to support supervisors in achieving a clean, safe school

Qualifications

• Must meet physical demands as certified by a physician.
• Willingness to assist supervisors in achieving cleanliness goals.
• Demonstrated aptitude for fulfilling assigned responsibilities.
• Superintendent may deem additional qualifications important.

Responsibilities

• Perform custodial functions to keep the building and premises neat and clean as assigned by Head Custodian/Facilities Manager.
• Sweep, dust, mop, wash, vacuum, and maintain cleanliness according to schedule.
• Move furniture or equipment as required for activities and as directed.
• Perform grounds keeping chores to maintain safe, attractive school grounds.
• Ensure security of the building by opening/closing and securing doors/windows.
• Assist in checking fire safety and fire equipment; know alarm system.
• Be aware of water shut-offs for emergencies.
• Monitor electrical panels for emergencies.
• Perform snow removal tasks or apply sand to walkways as trained.
• Report major repairs or damage; log items in SchoolDude system.
• Respond to emergencies in school buildings.
• Remain on campus during school hours if required.
• Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and order replacements.
• Provide input to budget as requested.
• Perform other custodial functions as assigned.
