Job summary

Texas Department of Transportation is seeking District Sign Tech II/III in the Lubbock area to install and maintain traffic signs, delineators and related equipment. The role includes inventory management, ordering materials, and working with specialized sign trucks.

CDL/Class A is required or must be obtained within the specified timeframe. Candidates should have 1–2 years of sign installation/repair experience and be prepared for physical work in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • District Sign Tech II: 1 year in sign installation and repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.
  • District Sign Tech III: 2 years in sign installation and repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. 1 year in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists maintenance crews; may respond to emergencies
  • Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products
  • Maintains expense records and inventory
  • Measures and calculates material quantities
  • Mixes and places concrete for sign foundations
  • Operates sign trucks to install roadway signs
  • Performs and maintains inventory of signs
  • Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck
  • Repairs/install signs per MUTCD and guidance
  • Orders supplies and signs
  • Conducts nighttime luminaire inspections for reflectivity
  • Inspects roadways for deficiencies and recommends repairs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • May assist in scheduling and lead projects
  • Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety
