Job summary

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified candidates to apply for the role of Supervisor – Science. You will lead district‑level science instruction, coach instructional staff, and align programs with New Jersey standards.

Responsibilities include overseeing science curriculum, assessment development, and professional development for department chairs and teachers, while ensuring a positive learning environment and high student achievement in a 12‑month setting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
• NJ Principal Standard or Supervisor Standard license (preferred).
• Valid New Jersey Science Teaching Certificate.
• Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in school or district level administration.
• Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience in teaching Science.
• Knowledge of New Jersey Student Learning Standards for curriculum, assessment and instruction.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Observes, coaches, and evaluates teachers and department chairs, providing ongoing professional development for targeted improvement.
• Monitors Teach NJ Educator Effectiveness activities, observations, and evaluations of department chairs and teachers of Science.
• Leverages department chairs, teacher coaches and academic interventionists to maximize implementation of district‑approved curricular guides and intervention strategies.
• Synthesizes science achievement quarterly reports and presents a comprehensive review at various forums.
• Lead in the area of Science; author and update rigorous science curriculum guides and resources.
