Job summary

Montebello Unified School District seeks a qualified leader to manage the Payroll Department and Benefits Section. The role directs payroll processing for certificated and classified staff, oversees health, vision, dental and other benefits, and ensures accurate reporting and compliance across the district.

The position requires strategic oversight, staff supervision, and collaboration with finance, HR and districts’ stakeholders to optimize operations and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Four‑year college degree in public or business administration, accounting, finance or closely related field.
• At least five years of professional payroll management experience, with three in a supervisory role.
• Public agency experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and direct the Payroll Department activities to meet goals and performance measures.
• Direct and evaluate Supervisors and staff; set performance targets and coach for improvement.
• Develop and maintain automated payroll and benefits systems and records.
• Coordinate payroll, benefits and timekeeping with finance, HR and workers' compensation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and district regulations and guidelines.
