District Manager - Multi-Unit Fitness Operations
A growing multi-unit fitness organization is seeking a hands-on District Manager to oversee approximately 6 to 10 locations within an assigned market.
This leader will be responsible for district-wide sales, profitability, operational execution and team development. The District Manager will work closely with location-level managers to improve performance, achieve key business objectives and consistently deliver an exceptional member experience.
This is a field-based leadership position requiring regular presence inside the locations, direct coaching of managers and strong accountability around sales, staffing, financial performance and operating standards.
Compensation:
$80,000 base salary plus annual performance incentives
Position Overview
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Revenue Growth
- Establish and monitor district-wide sales and membership goals.
- Coach location managers on sales execution, prospecting, tours and conversion.
- Review daily, weekly and monthly performance to identify trends and opportunities.
- Develop action plans for underperforming locations and hold managers accountable for improvement.
- Create a sales-focused culture that recognizes strong performance and results.
- Maintain responsibility for controllable location-level P&Ls across the district.
- Monitor labor, payroll, supplies and operating expenses.
- Review financial performance with location managers and implement corrective action when necessary.
- Develop managers’ understanding of budgeting, expense control and profitability.
- Partner with senior leadership on strategies that improve district performance.
Leadership and Team Development
- Recruit, hire, coach and develop high-performing location managers.
- Maintain proper staffing levels across the district.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations and development discussions.
- Build a strong leadership pipeline by identifying and preparing internal talent for promotion.
- Support performance management and ensure consistent accountability across all locations.
Operations and Member Experience
- Ensure every location consistently meets company standards for cleanliness, safety and service.
- Conduct regular operational reviews and develop follow-up action plans.
- Partner with facilities teams to minimize equipment downtime and resolve maintenance concerns.
- Monitor member feedback and ensure timely resolution of service issues.
- Lead weekly meetings with location managers to review KPIs, staffing, priorities and operating initiatives.
Administration and Compliance
- Ensure payroll, hiring documentation, certifications and performance reporting are accurate and completed on time.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and applicable safety requirements.
- Provide timely district-level performance updates to senior leadership.
- Ensure managers consistently execute required training and onboarding programs.
Qualifications
- Proven multi-unit leadership experience in fitness, retail, hospitality, restaurants or another service-driven industry.
- Experience overseeing multiple location managers and large hourly teams.
- Strong sales leadership background with a track record of improving revenue or membership performance.
- Working knowledge of P&L management, budgeting, labor control and controllable expenses.
- Ability to analyze performance data and create effective action plans.
- Strong coaching, communication and performance-management skills.
- Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple locations and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and business reporting systems.
- CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain it.
Schedule and Travel Expectations
- Field-based position with regular travel throughout the assigned market.
- Expected to be present in locations five days per week.
- Availability for occasional nights and weekends is required.
- Schedule may vary based on business needs.
- Minimum of 40 hours per week.
