Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation seeks a District Maintenance Manager (Transportation Bureau Chief) in Fairfield to lead a large, multi-county maintenance district with a safety-first, people-centered leadership style.

You will oversee 4,028 lane miles, 640 bridges, manage a $15 million budget, drive workforce planning, and coordinate emergency readiness while partnering with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree and substantial management-level experience.
• Experience in finance, HR, engineering, law, data processing, or program evaluation is required or equivalent.
• Knowledge of public administration concepts is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for a large, multi-county transportation district.
• Lead people development, workforce planning, coaching, and performance management.
• Direct districtwide maintenance operations, including road/bridge upkeep and emergency response.
• Oversee an annual maintenance budget and ensure cost-effective service delivery.
• Represent the district in collaborations with partners and ensure 24/7 operational readiness.
