Job summary

Job description

About the District:

Metropolitan Domestic Water Improvement District is seeking a District Engineer. Established in 1992, Metro Water District is a public utility that has grown to include three main service areas providing potable water to approximately 50,000 customers within Pima County, near Tucson, Arizona.

Position and Organizational Profile:

Since its establishment, the District has maintained an active capital improvement program, replacing many aged and undersized distribution lines, adding many miles of transmission mains, new wells, storage facilities, treatment facilities, and upgrading existing well sites. At this time, the potable system relies on ground water for its source of supply. The District also has an allocation of Colorado River water and has a successful recharge program to store this water for future use. Construction of a recovery and delivery system is nearing completion and will enable the District to directly utilize this renewable water resource. Capital improvements planned over the next five years include a new treatment facility, reservoir, transmission mains, a new utility building, and five new wells.

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate will possess a commitment to teamwork, outstanding strategic vision and leadership, superior management and leadership skills, highly developed communication and listening skills, and a proven record of successfully managing an engineering – operation.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering, land surveying, construction management and contract administration.
• Experience with development and administration of operating and capital budgets.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of organization, administration, and personnel management.
• Ability to oversee and manage the preparation of engineering plans and specifications.
• Ability to present and speak in front of public groups and the media.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates will possess a valid Arizona Professional Engineer Registration (civil), a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and eight years of increasingly responsible relevant professional civil engineering experience including five years at the supervisory level.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $117,200 – $172,047, starting salary is negotiable based on the background and qualifications of the successful candidate.
