Job summary

Essex District Attorney's Office is seeking an Assistant District Attorney for the District Court Division to work under supervision of senior staff and travel within Essex County. The role involves representing the Commonwealth in district courts, reviewing charges, and preparing cases for trial.

The position requires a J.D. degree and active Massachusetts Bar membership, with responsibilities including case evaluation, legal research, motions, and liaison with supervisors and media relations

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school and member in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Commonwealth before the Judges and Clerks of the District and Juvenile Courts.
• Represent the Commonwealth before the Judges and Clerks of the Superior Court as assigned.
• Represent the Commonwealth before appellate courts of the Commonwealth.
• Present Youthful Offender and Adult cases to the Grand Jury as assigned.
• Evaluate cases and identify evidentiary issues at the earliest pre-trial stage.
• Review charges at arraignment and pretrial conferences and take corrective action when warranted.
• Adhere to office policies and procedures and sentencing recommendations.
• Prepare assigned cases for trial and ensure witnesses are properly notified.
• Research legal issues and prepare motions and memoranda of law as needed.
• Follow Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct and Mass. law and procedure on suppression matters, grand jury practice, and jury selection.

Education
