Job summary

The Berkshire District Attorney's Office seeks a full-time Assistant District Attorney to join the District Court Prosecution team in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. You will prosecute criminal cases in district court, review police reports, handle arraignments, and participate in motions, discovery, and appeals.

Requirements include a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and membership in the Massachusetts Bar (or SJC Rule 3:03 certification); bilingual candidates are encouraged.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prosecute all aspects of criminal cases in primary and jury sessions of the three divisions of District Court in Berkshire County.
• Review police reports and charging decisions and make recommendations.
• Handle arraignments, bail requests, and detention hearings as appropriate.
• Provide mandatory discovery to defendants/defense counsel.
• Handle pre-trial motions and motions to suppress, and prepare memoranda and briefs.
• Review case files and determine case resolution recommendations.
• Manage mental health commitment matters affecting criminal cases.
• Handle cases by plea, bench, or jury trial.
• Comply with Victim’s Bill of Rights and manage appeals in Massachusetts Appeals Court and the Supreme Judicial Court.
