Temple ISD seeks a district attendance officer to enforce compulsory attendance laws and prevent truancy, serving as liaison to parents, law enforcement, and courts. The role involves investigating absences, issuing warnings, and enforcing corrective actions across campuses districtwide.

The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a relevant certification, strong legal/applicability knowledge, and ability to travel to student homes as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and certification as a teacher, counselor, or social worker.
• Knowledge of state compulsory attendance laws.
• Knowledge of juvenile justice system and ability to present truancy cases to the court.
• Ability to interpret laws, policies, and procedures.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to operate a PC to develop databases and word processing.
• Ability to travel districtwide to conduct home visits and visit sites with truancy reported.

Responsabilités

• Investigate unexcused and excessive absences and enforce attendance laws.
• File complaints against students or parents; refer to court as needed.
• Implement truancy prevention measures per state regulations.
• Impose behavior improvement plans and refer to counseling or services.
• Investigate suspected dropouts and recover unreturned textbooks.
• Meet annually with case managers or court-appointed individuals to discuss truancy prevention.
• Confer with teachers, counselors, principals, and parents to address tardiness and truancy.
• Conduct home visits and parent conferences; inform about attendance laws and district policy.
• Represent the district in court hearings related to attendance; liaise with law enforcement and courts.
• Compile and file reports required by law and district policies.
• Comply with policies under federal/state laws and district regulations.
• Administer oaths and transport suspended students when needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow safety procedures.
