Canteen is hiring a District Accounting Manager to own accounting for vending, markets, and refreshment services within the district. This on-site role involves traveling up to 30% to the Shelby office and coordinating with Asheville, Shelby, Hickory, and nearby markets.

You will act as a financial leader and hands-on partner to the business, driving accurate reporting, close processes, and cost-benefit analyses to improve profitability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business or related field preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP.
• At least two years of financial management experience preferred.
• Ability to track and clearly communicate financial data up the chain.
• Audit/compliance experience and comfort with financial documentation.
• Flexibility for evening/weekend work during month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Handle day-to-day HR issues, including payroll and benefits administration.
• Manage the cash room and coordinate banking/armored car services.
• Oversee A/R and A/P processes.
• Assist in producing weekly financial reporting.
• Provide financial perspective on district issues and cost-benefit analysis.
• Lead period close and ensure accurate general ledger and reconciliations.
• Analyze financial statements to identify profit improvement opportunities.
• Assist with forecast and budget modeling and what-if scenarios.
• Maintain internal controls within the district operation.
• Interact with internal and external auditors.
• Support DOT-related issues and building maintenance schedules.

About the Role

Canteen is seeking a District Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team — a fantastic opportunity to grow your financial career within a hospitality-focused company committed to exceptional food and wow-worthy guest service. In this role, you'll own accounting for the vending, markets, and refreshment services operations within your District Branch, serving as both a financial leader and a hands‑on partner to the business.

Please note - this role demands regular travel (30%) to our Shelby office location - travel expenses will be reimbursed. We are open to candidates based in Asheville, Shelby, Hickory & surrounding markets. This is a full time on site role.

What You'll Do

• Handle day-to-day HR issues, including payroll and benefit administration, training, FMLA/Worker's Comp, and regulatory compliance staffing
• Manage the cash room and coordinate banking/armored car services
• Oversee A/R and A/P processes
• Assist in producing weekly financial reporting
• Bring a financial perspective to business issues facing District operations, including cost-benefit analysis
• Manage period close, ensure the general ledger is accurately represented, and complete balance sheet reconciliations
• Analyze financial statements to identify areas for profit improvement and recommend action
• Assist with forecast and budget modeling, including evaluation of what-if scenarios
• Maintain internal controls within the District operation
• Interact with internal and external auditors
• Provide assistance with DOT-related issues/schedules
• Provide support with building maintenance management as needed

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in a Business program (Accounting, Finance, Management, etc.) preferred but not required
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and SAP
• Minimum of two years of financial management experience preferred - this role will lead a small team (based in Asheville and Shelby)
• Ability to track and measure financial data and communicate it clearly up and down the organization
• Audit compliance experience and comfort with financial documentation
• Flexibility for evening/weekend work during month-end close
