Job summary

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources seeks a full-time Natural Resources Supervisor in New Ulm, MN. The role supervises District 10 operations, directs program implementation, and leads unit supervisors with a focus on budget and safety.

Hours are typically Monday–Friday 8:00am–4:30pm, with potential evenings, weekends, and holidays. Telework may be available part-time per policy, and travel is required within the district.

Qualifications

• Four years of professional experience in a natural resource setting with responsibilities including budget development and fiscal management, work planning, partnership development, and managing outdoor recreation programs or experiences.
• A bachelor’s or advanced degree in natural resource management, parks & recreation, natural science, communications, public relations, business management, political science, public administration, social science, education, interpretation, or closely related field may substitute for part of the experience.
• Two years of supervisory experience including supervising professional or supervisory staff in a governmental agency, or in a natural resource setting, organization or agency.

Responsibilities

• Direct the implementation and integration of Division programs and activities with Unit Supervisors in District 10 of the Southern Region, so that the Division’s and region’s program goals, objectives, and priorities are completed.
• Provide leadership and supervision directly to Unit Supervisors and indirectly to field staff so that Division programs are implemented and staff time is used effectively.
• Direct budget management activities in the district so that organizational needs and program requirements are met.
• Coordinate and collaborate on the preparation and implementation of plans and policies for Units in the district so that Division operations are efficient and effective.
• Direct the implementation of the district's outreach, conservation education, and visitor service functions to serve as a gateway for visitors and program participants.
• Direct implementation of the Resource Management program/use area management in the district so that cultural and natural resources are conserved and protected.
• Direct all district maintenance, development, and land acquisition activities so that structures and facilities are safe and resources are preserved.
• Direct and implement enforcement and emergency services and activities for the district to provide for public enjoyment and safe use of resources.
• Actively seek and participate in professional development to maintain leadership and management skills.
• Direct and plan a Division safety program in District 10 to promote a safety culture.
