Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Distribution Engineer in the Columbus/Akron area to design and deliver electrical distribution projects from concept through construction. You will develop voltage packages for overhead and underground systems and ensure designs meet client and regulatory requirements.

The role requires ABET-accredited engineering education and 3+ years of experience, with FE path or MS degree as alternatives. Strong analytical, communication, and GIS skills are essential.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
• FE exam completed with 3 years of relevant experience.
• Master’s degree in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground projects.
• Create design sketches, cost estimates, BOMs, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations (cable pulling, voltage drop, pole loading).
• Apply knowledge of NESC and utility standards.
• Research and compile project data for managers.
• Conduct field inspections of overhead/underground facilities.
• Prepare communications on vegetation management, ROW, outage planning.
• Develop client presentations and project status visuals.
