Job summary

Qualus is seeking an Engineer II in the Distribution Department to lead electric utility distribution projects, develop designs using WMS, Pole Foreman, Design Manager/Electric Office and AutoCAD, and mentor junior staff.

The role requires 3–5 years of experience in distribution engineering, knowledge of NESC standards, and strong client-relations skills to deliver safe and cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related) from an ABET-accredited institution.
• 3–5 years of experience in electric utility distribution engineering and design.
• Experience designing and supporting overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Knowledge of utility distribution standards, NESC requirements, and utility construction practices.
• Proficiency with utility design and work management software (Pole Foreman, Design Manager/Electric Office, WMS, AutoCAD, etc.).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience coordinating design packages and construction work orders.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and client-relations skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational, document-management and attention-to-detail skills.
• Proven ability to perform technical reviews for quality and compliance of deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and engineering expertise for distribution projects (overhead and underground).
• Apply client standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements to design and execution.
• Support project execution by managing assignments, monitoring performance, resolving technical issues and maintaining client relationships.
• Develop and oversee engineering design packages using client software (Distribution Design Studio, Pole Foreman, Design Manager, WMS, AutoCAD).
• Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering and design deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers through training and reviews.
• Communicate with internal teams, clients, contractors and regulators to support project delivery.
• Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, standards, and capabilities.
• Maintain productivity and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
