Job summary

POWERX Edge in Atlanta, GA seeks a Distribution Engineer III to design, estimate, and coordinate electric power distribution projects, delivering safe and code-compliant solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial clients.

You will lead Capital and O&M projects through all phases, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance reliability and efficiency on critical infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or General).
• 3-5 years of progressive engineering experience.
• EIT or PE license preferred.
• Excellent technical skills and familiarity with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Design, estimate, and coordinate distribution systems for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
• Lead Capital and O&M projects through all phases of development, from concept to closeout.
• Identify and implement innovative engineering solutions to improve system reliability, cost efficiency, and safety.

Job Summary:

The Distribution Engineer III is responsible for the engineering design, cost estimation, project coordination, and field inspection of electric power distribution projects. This role supports other departments and delivers cost-effective, safe, and high-quality solutions for our clients, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices. The role also provides technical guidance across teams and projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Design, estimate, and coordinate the construction of overhead and underground power distribution systems for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
• Lead and manage "Capital" and "O&M" projects through all phases of development, from concept to closeout.
• Identify and implement innovative engineering solutions to improve system reliability, cost efficiency, and safety.

Safety & Quality

• Champion a strong safety culture, consistently applying the highest standards for personal and team safety practices.
• Ensure all engineering work meets internal quality standards and complies with regulatory guidelines.

Training and Development

• Guide junior engineers and technical staff.
• Lead by example in interpreting and applying construction bulletins, standards, and engineering procedures.
• Stay current with evolving industry trends and participate in ongoing training and certification programs.

Field Inspection & Compliance

• Ensure all engineering work meets internal quality standards and complies with regulatory guidelines.
• Provide recommendations and engineering modifications to ensure system integrity and code adherence.
• Co-Lead high-visibility projects for critical infrastructure and key accounts, including politically sensitive installations.

Research and Report Writing

• Prepare accurate project documentation, reports, and technical analyses.
• Maintain records related to project progress, cost, and compliance.

Client Relations and Support

• Serve as a primary technical contact for client stakeholders, ensuring responsiveness and technical excellence.
• Address client concerns with professionalism and provide clear, actionable solutions.
• Build and maintain strong client partnerships that support long‑term engagement and satisfaction.

Additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the organization's goals and adapt to evolving business needs.

Attributes/Abilities:

• Must have a satisfactory background/MVR check.
• Must pass a pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug test.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of customer tools such as: JETS, GIS, SOCKET, TCMS & DistView.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, Distribution Bulletins, Engineering Handbook, Distribution Specifications, Distribution Operating Procedures, ARC Flash Requirements, Metering Blue Book & Franchise Manual.
• Strong customer service and leadership skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently or part of a team.
• Possess project management skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Acrobat.

Experience and Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or General).
• 3-5 years of progressive engineering experience.
• EIT or PE license preferred.
• Excellent technical skills and familiarity with industry standards.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work safely around electrical and mechanical hazards.
• Operates light measuring instruments.
• Potential minimum exposure to various conditions, including dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.
• Requires field work in industrial environments.
• Ability and willingness to work occasional excess straight time as needed.
• May require travel 25% of the time.
