Job summary

HDR Distribution Project Engineer position seeks to lead design for distribution overhead and underground lines, with responsibility for load flow/contingency analyses and full design packages across multiple project types.

The role emphasizes mentoring newer EITs and coordinating with project managers and disciplines to deliver results on schedule and to code standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • Professional engineer license (PE) or equivalent is expected.
  • Experience in Power Market Sector project execution is required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the power design team's work through schematic design and contract document phases.
  • Establish meetings with governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Coordinate workload to meet project deliverables on schedule.
  • Conduct site work sessions with Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Review project documents for conflicts with other disciplines.
  • Write and edit project specifications.
  • Assist with RFIs, COs and incorporate changes into documents.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Perform QA/QC on work of others.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary duties of a Distribution Project Engineer include preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for distribution overhead and underground lines, performing load flow analysis, contingency analysis, and coordination studies. This Engineer will be seen as the Lead Engineer for projects, and the subject matter expert in their area of expertise. They will create full design packages across many different projects: Infrastructure, Renewables, Industrial, etc. They will also be expected to mentor newer EIT’s to grow their careers and capabilities.

In the role of Distribution Project Engineer, we’ll count on you to:
  • Coordinate the work of the power design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Coordinate workload to complete the deliverable on schedule.
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Review project documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines.
  • Write and edit project specifications
  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, requests for information (RFIs), change orders (COs), and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Engineers, Project Coordinators or Designers, or BIM Technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference given to candidates local to the Madison/Milwaukee, WI or Minneapolis, MN area
  • Some travel may be required
  • Medium voltage design and power system study analysis experience
  • Part of a local or national organization within the industry
  • Previous presentation or white paper experience
  • Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm or electrical utility
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in project execution within the Power Sector Market
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software. (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
