Job summary

K&A Power Group in Syracuse, NY or Boston, MA seeks a Distribution Design Engineer to design electric distribution systems, develop packages, and support permitting. You will work on overhead and underground projects, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure safety and reliability across projects in the utility sector.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; equivalent utility experience may be considered.
• Experience in electric utility distribution design and related infrastructure projects.
• Understanding of overhead and underground distribution systems.
• Knowledge of utility construction practices and safety regulations.
• Experience with GIS, CAD, AutoCAD, or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

• Design electric distribution projects including overhead and underground systems.
• Develop construction work packages, drawings, and project documentation per standards.
• Conduct field visits and site assessments to gather design data.
• Prepare cost estimates, material specs, and project schedules.
• Coordinate with stakeholders, municipalities, contractors, and customers.
• Support permitting, easement, and right-of-way activities as needed.
• Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and environmental standards.
• Utilize GIS, CAD, and design software to maintain records.
• Assist with storm restoration and emergency response when required.
• Manage multiple projects with deadlines and budgets.
