Job summary

K&A Power Group is seeking a Distribution Design Engineer in Syracuse, NY or Boston, MA. You will design electric distribution projects, prepare construction documents, and coordinate with stakeholders across multiple sites, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related technical discipline; equivalent utility experience may be considered.
  • Experience in electric utility distribution design or related infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of utility construction practices, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience with GIS, CAD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel locally to project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Design electric distribution projects including overhead and underground systems, service upgrades, line extensions, and system improvement initiatives.
  • Develop construction work packages, engineering drawings, and project documentation per National Grid standards.
  • Conduct field visits and site assessments to gather design information and validate project requirements.
  • Prepare cost estimates, material specifications, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders, municipalities, contractors, and customers throughout project lifecycles.
  • Support permitting, easement, and right-of-way activities as needed.
  • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, environmental, and operational standards.
  • Utilize GIS, CAD, and utility design software to prepare and maintain engineering records.
  • Assist with storm restoration and emergency response efforts as required.
  • Manage multiple projects to meet deadlines and budget expectations.

Role Expectations

What We’re Looking For

Pay Range $80,000—$120,000/year
