Job summary

The Port of Seattle is seeking a Distribution Center Inventory Purchasing Specialist to support Aviation Maintenance through the distribution warehouse. Two openings exist. You will manage MRO stock, purchase items, and process orders and invoices using Maximo and PeopleSoft.

Requirements include one year of warehouse experience and a high school diploma or GED. Forklift certification and familiarity with Maximo/PeopleSoft/SAP Concur are preferred.

Qualifications

• One year of warehouse experience including inventory management and purchasing.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two years of distribution level warehouse experience preferred, with Maximo, PeopleSoft, SAP Concur experience a plus.
• Forklift certification preferred or obtainable within probationary period.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; able to learn Maximo, SAP Concur and Oracle PeopleSoft.

Responsibilities

• Support Aviation Maintenance crafts by providing logistical support and procurement services.
• Maintain MRO inventory stock, buy supplies, issue parts and materials, and fill orders using Maximo and service records.
• Purchase materials and services through Port’s Central Procurement Office using Purchasing Card, Blanket Contracts, and Requisitions.
• Receive/validate supplies and load/unload shipments with forklift or warehouse equipment.
• Source suppliers and place orders to fill rush needs using Port procurement contracts.
• Process vendor invoices and prepare payment requests via Maximo and PeopleSoft.
• Report to Distribution Center Lead, Procurement and Inventory Supervisor and Manager.

Some of what you'll be doing:

As a Distribution Center Inventory Purchasing Specialist, you will support the Aviation Maintenance crafts via the distribution warehouse by providing logistical support and procurement services for all aviation customers. We are recruiting for two openings.

• You will support technicians who provide Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) of airport.
• You will maintain MRO inventory stock items, buy supplies, and other essential materials and services; issue parts and maintenance materials, and fill orders for the departments and technicians using Maximo and service-related records.
• You will purchase material, services, and items using a Purchasing Card, Blanket Vendor Contracts, and Requisitions through the Port’s Central Procurement Office.
• You will receive and validate supplies as they are received, as well as load/unload incoming and outgoing shipments using a forklift and/or other warehouse equipment.
• You will locate sources of supplies and order items from vendors to fill rush orders or meet emergencies and communicate with multiple vendors to purchase goods and services using Port of Seattle procurement contracts and procedures.
• You will process vendor invoices and prepare contract payment requests on open purchase orders via Maximo and PeopleSoft.
• You will report to the Distribution Center Lead, Procurement and Inventory Supervisor and the Manager of the Distribution Center.
• You may be directed to report to the maintenance craft supervisor to meet operational requirements.

Who you are

• Experienced – You have one (1) year of warehouse experience, including inventory management and purchasing. You are able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation and have the ability to become certified on a forklift within the probationary period.
• Educated – You possess a High School Diploma or GED.
• Desired – We hope that you have two (2) years of distribution level warehouse experience. We hope you have experience with Maximo, or other computerized maintenance management systems, and/or Oracle PeopleSoft, SAP Concur, and possess a current Forklift Certification (sit down and stand up).

• Knowledgeable – You have a hands‑on working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new applications such as Maximo (computerized maintenance management system), SAP Concur, and Oracle PeopleSoft. You are proficient in general office functions such as filing, records keeping, copying, and faxing. You must be able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
• Customer Service Centered – You possess excellent customer service skills and have experience working in a fast‑paced, high-volume environment.
• Flexible – You are flexible, self‑motivated, and have the ability to multi‑task. Additionally, you are able to take directions and work independently as well as with the team.

What else you need to know

• Driver’s License – You will need a valid Washington State Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain one, is required in order to travel locally to project sites.
• Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, any time between 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The successful candidate will be required to be available for shifts during those hours and will work a standard 40-hour work week. Hours may vary based upon organizational need and seniority.
• Work Environment – You will primarily work in a warehouse or storeroom environment, as well as outside in all types of inclement weather when delivering or picking up orders.
• Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
• Overtime Eligible – You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
• Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
• Security Requirements – You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
• Union Representation – This position is represented by International Association of Machinists, Inventory Specialists Union, Local 289.
