Job summary

Emerald AI in Washington is seeking a Distributed Systems / Backend Engineer to be a core contributor on the backend platform powering our real-time energy intelligence engine. You will drive architectural decisions, build foundational infrastructure, and influence the stack and roadmap.

You will work across ingestion, compute, storage and orchestration to design highly reliable components at scale. Seniority ranges from mid to senior with strong backend experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend or distributed systems experience.
• Experience designing and maintaining microservices architectures at scale.
• Strong system design and performance optimization skills.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, or Java.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable and reliable backend services and APIs.
• Drive architecture decisions and contribute to core platform direction.
• Improve observability, reliability, and security practices.
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers to deliver scalable solutions.
